King Thiba ruled Mynamar for seven years until he was defeated by the British in 1885. The British Army transferred him from Myanmar to Madras, and then to Ratnagiri to ensure that he doesn’t rebel.


In 1910, a huge Brahmi style three-storeyed palace was made for King Thiba spread 27 acres. He used to host many local festivals such as Diwali, In 1919, he died at the age of 58. The palace is a witness to many events and has a special place in the Ratnagiri. It is located 1.7 Kilometres from Ratnagiri city.


The palace has a marble flooring dancing hall and the palace is decorated with wooden flooring. The windows have coloured Italian glasses which adds to the charm. The palace is constructed using laterite stone and has a sloping roof. The rooms in the palace are large as well.


The Thiba Palace has an archaeological museum and an art exhibition as well. Near the Thiba point, there is the Jijamata Garden. People come here to be the sunset, which is quite a sight. The palace offers a view of the Kajali river and the Arabian Sea.

Bhootpapeshwar Temple is considered to be one of the best temples to visit in Konkan. It is located in Rajapur and is surrounded by the many waterfalls of the Mrudani River. It is located just 3 - 4 Kilometres from the Rajapur Bus Station.


The path towards the temple itself is quite beautiful. The road leading to the temple is surrounded by dense forest and is free from pollution. During the rainy season, the place especially becomes beautiful, since the Mrudani River flowing through the hills generates magnificent waterfalls around the temple.


The Arial Prop Roots of hundreds of year old Banyan Trees resemble the Jatas of Lord Shiva. You will surely experience peace of mind in this temple, away from your hectic and stressful life. The temple has a hall, pavilion and a sanctum. The temple is said to be 1000 years old.

Kunkeshwar Temple: A Temple With An Interesting Legend

Kunkeshwar Temple is located 2 hours drive away from Kunkshwar Temple. The temple has an interesting legend around it. The legend says that the temple was built by a non - Hindu. A sailor was near the shore when the storm wrecked his ship. There was a lamp on the shore and the sailor prayed to look at the lamp. He promised that if his ship reaches the shore safely then he was built a temple in that area.


The ship miraculously reached the shore of the beach and the sailor constructed the temple right on the beach as a gratitude to the gods. The Shiv Linga was already there and hence, the temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva.


Another Legend states that the temple was built by the Yadav Kings 900 years ago. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire renovated the temple several times since he visited the temple frequently.


In front of the temple, there are 6 deep malas or light towers and the statue of Nandi - the bull. Inside the temple, an image of Goddess Parvati is situated beside the Shiv Lingam. The temple is situated at the beach, surrounded by coconut trees and overlooking the Arabian Sea.


The temple can be visited any time of the year and is open the whole day. There is no entry fee for the temple.
